San Diego Books & Brews Event Was a Success for Maven Publishing and Our Authors

We want to send a heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to Iron Fist Brewing Company for our first ever Books & Brews event earlier this month! Modmacro CEO Matthew Smith and AVPA President Matthew Grisafe were the guests of honor, giving out copies of their newly released books and signing them for everyone. It was great to meet so many small business owners from the San Diego area and to listen to both Smith and Grisafe as they shared their passion for their businesses.

One of the most common questions throughout the night was, “how did you guys have time to write a book?” Honestly, that’s one of the most common questions I get from business owners when they first inquire about what we do at Maven. By definition, business owners are not the kinds of people who have idle time. Smith and Grisafe are perfect examples of how busy professionals can collaborate with an experienced publisher to create something that has a big impact on clients and colleagues.

Our first priority as publishers is to make sure that the books we create will help drive the authors’ businesses forward and tell their stories in a way that connects with readers. In order to do that, we rely on a lot of input from the authors. But one of our areas of expertise is making sure that we get that input in a way that doesn’t pull the authors away from their businesses. After all, each of our authors is a business owner, first and foremost. We believe every business owner has a story to tell, and that our job is to make that a possibility!

Books & Brews was a lot of fun. We all came together, had great food and beer (thanks Iron Fist!), and talked about our businesses. We also had the chance to talk about books and what it takes to write one. It was great to be able to answer questions about the publishing process and to explain why we have such a passion for what we do.

It’s hard to say what the next year will bring, but our hope is that we will have a Second Books & Brews next fall, and that even more authors will be there to share their brand new books!
