DIY Publishing for Your Business Book: Don’t Do It!

DIY Publishing for Your Business Book: Don’t Do It!

Many of the most successful small business owners we know embrace the DIY attitude and love gaining as many competencies as possible. Whether that attitude comes from a desire to cut costs, to maintain in-house control over a project, or even to pursue new skills purely out of a passion for learning, it can be a key to success.

However, some skills are best left to professionals (ask any business owner who has tried to navigate a complicated tax return to avoid calling an accountant!). For one thing, some tasks are highly specialized and require extensive training to do them well, but more importantly, you are too busy running your business to try and learn everything yourself.

At Maven, we believe publishing falls in the “don’t DIY” category, especially for business owners. The risks and drawbacks of self-publishing are too great, and the learning curve is too steep to be worth it, unless you are working towards becoming a publisher yourself. To find out more about the reasons to call in a professional publisher, check out the article we recently published in Businessing Magazine.
