Entrepreneurs are among the most interesting and creative people I know, and almost all of them have incredible stories to tell. So, last week, when I came across an article titled: Dear Entrepreneurs: Please Don’t Write a Book—We’re Begging You, you better believe I stopped dead in my tracks. As if the title weren’t provocative enough, it was written by Ryan Holiday, an author for whom I’ve always had great respect. I had to read it right then. After all, if he’s saying entrepreneurs shouldn’t write books, have I been crazy for saying they should?
Turns out, no, I’m not crazy. He made some great points, but I haven’t changed my mind. His article made me think, though, and while I still wholeheartedly believe entrepreneurs should be telling their stories by writing books, I believe the “how” and “why” behind those books are crucial.
I decided to explore this topic in greater depth in an article, which was recently published in Businessing Magazine. If you’re a business owner who is thinking about writing a book, check it out. I hope it helps you clarify a few things before you start writing, and feel free to contact us at Maven if you have any questions about the book process. We’d love to help you get started!
