How to Destress This Holiday Season

As the holidays are in full swing, the added stress of the season is upon us. From finding the right gift for your loved ones to managing finances, spending and everything in between, the stress can really start to pile higher than your stack of presents. Unfortunately, stress can have a negative impact on not just our mental health, but our physical health too. Nobody wants to have stress during the holiday season! If you’re looking for simple and effective ways you can destress this holiday, check out the tips below:

1. Go for a Walk

Going for a walk isn’t just good for your physical health, it does wonders for your mental health, too. Daily walks have been proven to decrease stress levels and boost your mood. Call a friend to join you or go for a family walk to get in some much-needed family time while still exercising. Don’t forget to grab your walking shoes and your down jackets so you’re all warm and comfy during the winter months!

2. Meditate

Meditating can help restore peace, balance and a sense of calm—something we all need during the holiday season! Try starting your day with 5-10 minutes of meditation each morning before you begin your day. This will help you be able to tackle the day ahead with more intention and peace. If you’re new to meditation, try a guided session, focusing on slow and relaxed breaths.

3. Prioritize Sleep

Prioritizing sleep during the holidays can sometimes be tricky. Between travel plans, Christmas shipping and holiday shopping, it may be hard to get those needed 7 hours of sleep. Nonetheless, sleep is needed so you can enjoy the most wonderful time of the year! Getting enough sleep can improve your energy and reduce the stress that comes with the holidays. Once you wake up feeling refreshed after a full night’s sleep, you’ll be glad you got it!

4. Do Some Yoga

Yoga is a practice that has a ton of benefits. Aside from improving your flexibility, muscle strength and blood flow, it’s a restorative practice that can improve your overall mental health. There are tons of free videos you can follow depending on your skill level and what kind of flow you’re looking for.

The holidays can bring on stress indeed, but don’t let the stressors ruin the most wonderful time of the year! To find out how you can destress and make the most out of your holiday wellness routine, check out the rest of the tips in the visual guide below.
