Ideas for Your Small Business Blog

Ideas for Your Small Business Blog

Most small business owners know about the importance of having a blog on their small business website. It helps with search engine optimization (SEO), since your site is constantly being updated. It can also help Google understand what it is your business does when you consistently use certain keywords and phrases. For your customers and potential customers, a blog can be used to help establish your business one of the top ones in your industry or in your local area as you go into more depth about the products or services you offer.

But blogging isn’t without its challenges. It can be difficult to come up with new blog topics on a weekly, or even monthly basis after you’ve been doing it for some time. So here are a few ideas for blog topics that can work for almost any industry:

The History of…

No matter what industry you’re in, there’s a history to it. Do a little research and find out the roots behind your product or service. If you’re an electrician, talk about the fascinating rivalry between made your invention necessary.

There are a lot of history buffs out there. A properly researched and written blog post could turn a website visitor into a paying customer!

Employee Spotlight

Everybody loves a personal touch. Help your website visitors get to know your company on a more personal level by doing a feature on one or more of your employees. You can do this in an interview style blog post, or just write it like you would any other blog post. Make sure you include why this employee likes working for your company and why the company values them as an employee.

What to Expect

Whether you are offering a product or a service, it’s important to let your potential customers know what to expect if they give you their hard-earned money. If you are a service company, let them know when they can expect to receive service and how they will be charged (by the project, by the hour, or some other way). You can also talk about your company’s customer service. If you sell a product online, you can talk about things like shipping times and return policies.

Awards and Recognition

There’s no better way to establish your company as an authority in the industry than to write about any awards or recognition you receive. You can even talk about company milestones, such as completing 1,000 projects, or receiving 100 5-star reviews on Yelp.

Customer Reviews

Speaking of reviews, when you receive a good one, be sure to talk about it in your blog. Go over it in detail and highlight all of the great things your customer had to say about your company. This is a great opportunity to emphasize all of the things your company does well.

In the News

You can also use your blog to discuss any industry news that your customers may find interesting. Talking about the latest news in your line of business lets your customers know that you are on top of the latest trends and happenings and will give them an extra boost of confidence in your business.

New Products/Services

Any time you launch a new product or service, be sure to talk about it in your blog, even if you discuss it elsewhere on your website. When customers see the word “new” with regard to your products or services, it will lead them to think that yours is a company that’s moving forward and evolving with the times.
